Computer Crisis; Please Help!

All right, this is a weird one. Vanja and I just spent about two hours trying to fix it with no luck. But we think that Norton is at the bottom of it... big surprise.

I did all the usual things online today--signed on to messengers, checked my e-mails and internet accounts, etc. One or two of those stupid Norton boxes came up and I tried to exit out of them like I usually do, but I think I might have changed a setting and fucked something up in the process. I got a message a couple times that said something like "Internet Explorer is now running without add-ons." Then, I tried to open an e-mail in one of my Yahoo accounts, resulting in my IE crashing and restarting itself. I've not been able to open an e-mail from that Yahoo account since then.

The weird thing is, it's only that account that has the problem! I can safely open e-mails from all my other accounts, including my other Yahoo accounts! Even more strange is that Vanja opened an e-mail from the account from his computer and it worked fine! So it's just the one Yahoo account and only on my computer.

If Norton is the problem, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, because I can't access it with JAWS. I don't want to ask my parents for help because I'll inevitably get yelled at and possibly prevented from using their computer. Besides that, the Yahoo account in question is one that I use for more professional things, so I really need it to be working!

Any suggestions as to what to do would be very, very much appreciated. Thanks.

Becky

Ah, my suggestion was going to be to go and get c cleaner, run it, run its registry cleaner, then go into tools, uninstall, and just plain and remove norton. But if its your parents computer better not to do that then.

Unless that is, you talk to your parents about switching to a more screenreader friendly antivirus/antispyware program like Avast. I'm getting a new laptop soon, new laptop, new start, new antivirus/antispyware program, avast all the way. gives you realtime protection 24 7 and just runs in the background on your machine unless you tell it otherwise, no nasty pop up alerts or boxes of any kind, just a chime sound followed by the announcement that it has been updated every so often. Its a breeze. I've been using my boyfriend's lappy for the past 3 weels while staying there over Christmas and new year. That machine doesn't have Norton or any other thing which just calls itself an antivirus/antispyware program in sight. There's just Avast.

I wish I could do both of those, but there's no way my parents, especially my father, will go for it. Grrrr... I just need to say fuck it and get my own laptop, but I really, really can't afford it at the moment.

How did you get that avast program? Also I use norten, but it is very inaccessible.
Yeah, I would try the system restore, and hopefully it works. And if not, you may just have to uninstall Norten and reinstall it, but since it isn't your computer, that may be out of the question! Anyway, good luck

Google avast download. Simple as that.

if your parents are the types that think norton is what they need... they have a lot to learn. sorry i can't help but it's up to your parents to straighten up and look around.
